Vote “Kramer” for Dyer Town Council

Hi, I'm Steven (Steve) H. Kramer and I'm running for Dyer Town Council. My family and I have lived in Dyer for over 26 years and I have been a proud Union member of the United Steelworkers, District 7 for over 36 years. I previously was on the Dyer Town Council from 2006 thru 2010. I have been on various Boards and Commissions in Dyer. I have learned from our mistakes and will be building on our success, being carried by my passion for helping people and our community. We love our community and our neighbors, we truly are blessed!!!

I am asking for you to vote for me because it's about taking care of our residents, our community, businesses and neighbors, It’s about representing you, working for you, giving your voice a place to be heard on the Dyer Town Council, listening and acting on your behalf, helping resolve your issues and your problems, because that's what an elected official should do. I'm asking you to vote for Kramer, Dyer Town Council.

I am not a politician like some of the others, I'm a hard working family man, that together with my wife Sharon,( both growing up in Harvey IL) chose Dyer to raise our family, proudly sending them all four of them (Steve, Kellie, Jacob and Erin) to Prostman, Kahler, and Lake Central H.S. where all of them played in the "Tribe of Pride" marching Band.  Two of our  kids went on to I.U. and two went to Purdue. They played in Dyer Kickers and on the Dyer Little League Baseball teams. (and of course we have our great dog “Cosmo”)

I don't own a business in town, which may become a conflict of interest, and I believe the Police Commission should always be kept non-political, and never used for personal or political gain. I will not run for another political office either while serving my term on the Dyer Town Council, nope, what you'll get is an honest elected representative for Dyer, who is strong enough to speak up on everyones behalf, including the  businesses in our Community when you vote for Kramer.

Over the past few years, I've been observing a few things around town, I, like yourself and others have read in the newspapers about the economic growth that has been occurring in all of our surrounding communities, and I ask , why not Dyer? While on the Dyer Town Council, the Planning Commission and after resurrecting the Dyer Economic Commission, I was instrumental in bringing some great development and businesses in town such as the Texas Road House and the White Rhino and will continue to make it a priority to bring great businesses to Dyer. One of my new goals is to bring a nice Four Star Hotel to Dyer with possibly a restaurant and some nice shops. As we all look up and down Calumet Ave, there is nothing but corn or soy bean fields, we can see way too many vacant lots along Route 30 and we have all seen newly closed businesses over the last few years leaving empty building in Dyer, this has to stop! The town needs to change the way we look at new development, we need a new plan. Our new plan will be pro-actively, going out and find new development, lobby on behalf of Dyer and the residents, to build a good tax base with new businesses, to bring jobs and to keep our taxes and fees lower.

The residents have voiced their concerns about the promise of parks in Dyer. Concerns about the New Central Park not being completed, we need to finish what we started, completely finishing the Ball Parks so they can be used, we need leadership with a plan, that's what I will bring to the Dyer Town Council when elected.  With the development of large, new subdivision, there was the requirement and promise of Parks, property which has been set aside. Per ordinance, they are to be graded and seeded so that the neighborhood could at least use it for walking, playing, flying kites, baseball and soccer practice or just sitting there having a picnic.

In Rockwell and the other new subdivision behind the new Jewel...No Parks...why? In Prairie Trails, in the south west corner of town....No Parks, why?... these parks were required per our town ordinances and promised...what happened and why, who was in charge? When you vote for Kramer, this will become a top priority again to be completed.

My friends and neighbors, when you vote for Kramer, together, we will do better!! We need to take care of our town employees so they can take care of us, increase the Police, Supporting the Fire Department, Department of Public Works, the Clerks, Secretaries and all of the other employees that make Dyer work, The people who protect us, provide us with good clean water, a Sanitary System, Storm Water control and providing all of the services at Dyer Town Hall. We need to increase our Recycling in dyer so we can lower our garbage bill.

Please vote for Kramer, together, let's build a better Dyer,Together let's adjust our plans, together let's go out and find the good developers for our Community, working together we can stop being the "donut hole", the empty hole of development in our area. Together we can move forward to progress the way we want it, the way the residents request it. We need to repair roads and re-design traffic flows through our community now, while preparing for the future, we need a plan. Now is the time to start preparing, now is the time to create a "REAL" downtown, and now is the time to protect our neighborhoods from the new Main Street and a possible South Shore train stop.

I grew up in Harvey IL. as did my wife. We both were working at Allied Tube in Harvey when we met, Sharon worked in the office and myself in the Steel Pipe Mills,  out on the plant floor as a Welder and a Pipe Mill Operator. Now I am the USW Local 9777 Vice President and Servicing Representative, helping to take care of 43 different plants in the chicago land area, doing contract negotiations, grievances and arbirations, solving problem on behalf of thousands of our members.

After we were married, we decided to raise our family in Dyer over 26 years ago. We just had our first baby when we moved to Dyer on Magnolia Ave. Then having three more kids in the next four years, we thought that there was something in the water that caused this...lol

All four of our kids, Steven, Kellie, Jacob and Erin all went to the public schools , then on to I.U and Purdue Universities.

Our kids played in Little League Baseball and Dyer Kickers for Soccer. We love our community and our neighbors, we truly are blessed !!!

and of course our puppy Cosmo
